Bournemouth Borough Council: Pure Town Planning are celebrating another successful planning permission, secured at Planning Committee, for the demolition of existing buildings and erection of a four storey block of 15 flats in Christchurch Road, Bournemouth.
The proposal, involving the demolition of the existing buildings was at first considered unacceptable by the LPA due to its perceived impact on not only its neighbouring properties but also its related effect on the East Cliff Conservation Area. Following rigorous and comprehensive consultation between Pure Town Planning and the respective officers, in conjunction with Anders Roberts Cheer, the scheme was sensitively revised in order to address any and all concerns. Notwithstanding these revisions, the application was brought before Planning Committee with officers’ recommendation to refuse.
PTP successfully delivered their deputation to the board members who then began their in-depth debate. Members agreed that the redevelopment of the site (against officers’ recommendation), should be encouraged and would in fact breathe new life into a currently unremarkable site which contributes little to the street scene or surrounding area. The proposed 15 unit block was considered to be a well-designed and attractive development, providing additional housing stock in this highly sustainable location, whilst avoiding any unacceptable impact to the surrounding properties or the wider East Cliff Conservation Area. Planning Board members recognised the clear merits of the comprehensively designed and striking proposal and subsequently voted unanimously in favour of the application.
