West Dorset Weymouth Portland CILWeymouth and Portland Borough Council and West Dorset District Council: Our eagle eyed followers  may remember back in September 2015 we advised that the Joint Core Strategy of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and West Dorset District Council was to be adopted on 22 October 2015.

At the time of adoption, the two Council’s also adopted their Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedules, but no charging date was set. We have now received formal confirmation that both Council’s will begin charging on developments which gain planning permission on or after 18 July 2016. Whilst this unlikely to affect live applications, it could potentially affect appeals recently or about to be lodged or other proposals in the pipeline.

The rates will be as follows:

  • Residential (including restricted holiday lets) in West Dorset: £100 per sqm
  • Residential (including restricted holiday lets) in Portland: £80 per sqm
  • Residential (including restricted holiday lets) in rest of Weymouth and Portland Borough: £93 per sqm
  • Agricultural dwellings and strategic allocated sites are excluded.
  • All other development types are nil.
