England: Draft Regulations have recently been published confirming that a number of selected steep increases in planning fees are to come into effect on the 1st April 2025. This is in addition to the general inflation-linked annual increase (1.7% this time) which also comes into effect on the same day and will apply to all the remaining fee categories.

Of particular note is that householder planning application fees are to more than double from £258 to £528. Some other fees will double exactly: most prior approvals for permitted development and all applications to discharge of planning conditions. Section 73 applications to vary conditions on existing consents (which includes “minor material amendments”) will double to £586 except in the case of householder applications (which reduce to £86) and major applications (which are hiked up to £2000).

The Planning Portal has published a full list of all fees applicable from 1st April including the inflationary increases which can be found here.
