Purbeck’s finest – heading for a rockery near you.

Bournemouth Borough Council, Dorset County Council and Poole Borough Council have published the Pre-Submission draft of the Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Minerals Core Strategy for a period of consultation. The Minerals Core Strategy is a plan for meeting Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole’s mineral requirements. It sets out a strategy for quarrying stone, sand and gravel, ball clay and other minerals within the county, taking into account the need to contribute to national, regional and local requirements in a sustainable manner.

What the document doesn’t do is identify specific sites for mineral extraction. This will follow in the Minerals Site Allocations Document.

The consultation on the Core Strategy runs until 28 September. After this it will be submitted for examination by independent Planning Inspector.
