Bath and North East Somerset Council: We have recently secured planning permission for substantial two storey extensions and a total remodel which will dramatically transform an existing house on Bathwick Hill. The house is located within the City of Bath Conservation Area and the designated World Heritage Site. The approved scheme transforms the ageing 3-bed home into a large contemporary 4-bedroom family house. Each bedroom of the proposal will have its own balcony and it will add an additional living room and spacious kitchen/dining area as well as an integral double garage.
The house is set on a steep hillside with stunning views to the south. Due to the topography of the site and the scale of the proposal, concerns regarding the potential overlooking of surrounding properties were raised by some of the neighbours. However, Pure Town Planning were able to successfully put these concerns to bed, through constant collaborative work with the planning officer throughout the course of the application process, leading to a design which not only secured the applicant the extensive house remodel they desperately needed, but also safeguarded against any potential negative impacts of the proposal upon the neighbouring residents of Bathwick Hill to the satisfaction of Bath and North East Somerset Council.
The bespoke design was prepared by architect; Tony Holt Design who tailored the scale, layout and appearance of the scheme to fit with the context of the site whilst achieving the high level of floor space set out in the client’s brief. Whilst the resultant property was unashamedly larger (wider and longer) than the existing house on the site, because of constant contact with the planning officer at Bath and North Somerset Council we were able to quickly convince the planners that the proposal was not only acceptable, but a vast improvement on the existing arrangement.
