BCP Council (Bournemouth): Director of Pure Town Planning Dan Wilden is pleased to have secured planning consent for a pair of semi-detached houses for a site on Christchurch Road in the Pokesdown area of Bournemouth.

The site has remained undeveloped since mid 20th century and had been used for many years simply for advertising billboards. A proposal for a pair of semi-detached houses seemed to fit the site and the area very well. The scheme designed by LMA Architects was initially received positively by the planning officer however unfortunately ran into difficulties with an objection from the highways officer.

The planning officer did not see that the issue could be overcome so suggested we withdraw the application or receiving a refusal. But we weren’t going to just accept that! Working with the architects they managed to alter the scheme to fully address the concerns of the highways officer.

In addition, whilst these amended plans were being considered, the new Parking Standards SPD came into effect which indicated that a zero-parking scheme ought to be acceptable in this location so close to Pokesdown station. The highways objection was indeed withdrawn and subsequently approval for the amended scheme was duly granted.
