BCP Council (Poole): Matt Annen is delighted to have recently secured planning permission for a project very close to home… It is his own home! The scheme saw the demolition of an existing, tired 1950’s bungalow and its replacement with a large (2/3 storey, 5-bedroom), contemporary detached family dwelling with improved views of Poole Harbour.

The bespoke design was prepared by architect friend Simon Dilawershah of LMA Architects who tailored the scale, layout and appearance (being of a traditional form but a more contemporary elevation treatment) to meet the evolving character of the area whilst meeting his demanding client’s brief!

Due to the quality of the submitted plans and the robust supporting statement (which Matt prepared himself!) the support of the Case Officer was swiftly achieved who noted: The properties within the vicinity of the site vary greatly in terms of size, scale and design. Many bungalows, like the application property, have been replaced or extended with large, contemporary styled dwellings. The officer deemed that “Whilst it is acknowledged that the dwelling will be sited next to two bungalows, given the large mix of dwellings within the vicinity and the presence of the extended No. 5 beyond those bungalows, the bungalows should not be seen as a restriction to redevelopment of the application site. This proposal would result in a replacement dwelling that would preserve the character and appearance of the area”.
