Eastleigh Borough Council: Pure Town Planning are pleased to announce the approval of a new dwelling in Hamble in Hampshire.

The site is accessed by a narrow entrance at the end of a long cul-de-sac and presently is occupied by a row of lock-up garages for which there is limited local demand. The site is crossed by a public right of way, not formally recorded but claimed by historic use. As such it was necessary to re-provide the footpath along the side of the site.

The main difficulty with the site was the shape of it necessitated a building set back behind the main building line – thus the impact of the dwelling on the adjacent gardens and outlook from the rear windows of neighbouring dwellings was key. Our first attempt for a two storey dwelling was refused by Eastleigh Borough Council – for exactly these reasons. An older application for a bungalow had been withdrawn – we can only assume because it was destined for refusal and the Council’s planning officer expressed doubt that the site was capable of being developed for a dwelling.

However a robust application for a bungalow, designed by Design and Development Associates, persuaded the Council that the proposal was acceptable and planning consent was duly granted.
