Dorset Council (East Dorset area): Matt Annen, a Director of Pure Town Planning, is pleased to reveal that he has recently secured outline planning permission for a site in Ferndown. The outline planning permission granted consent for the demolition of an existing house and erection of a residential block consisting of 1 replacement dwelling attached to 5 apartments (3 of which duplex) with underground parking.

The scheme was designed by DOT Architecture, a local firm based in Christchurch and boasts a contemporary style and finish within a traditional form.

All the accommodation benefits from underground parking and lift access, whilst the dwelling, as well as it’s underground parking in the basement space, has a swimming pool and hot tub with associated changing/wellness area and a lower Japanese style garden.

An interesting factor of this scheme was that part of the site fell within 400m of a designated Dorset Heathland site. The boundary line actually passes through and dissects the site; because of this, talks with Natural England had to take place. Natural England advised that the proposed layout was compliant with the Dorset Heathlands SPD guidance as it leaves a single dwelling (replacement) within the 400m zone (no net increase) and the additional units and importantly their access are outside of the the 400m zone.

The appearance of the building is befitting of the character and appearance of the immediate area. Whilst the proposal provides 5 dwellings, the design has been cleverly thought out to appear to the average passersby as a large detached residence. Thus being reflective of the character of the area which generally consists of large buildings in large plots
