West Dorset District Council: Pure Town Planning has recently secured planning permission for external alterations to facilitate internal building works to increase the area of car showroom. Running concurrently with this application was an advertisement application for the installation of four no. Illuminated fascia signs and two no. illuminated signs.

The scheme was designed by our client OC Projects Limited who are the Design and Build Principal Contractors – they specialise in designing, refurbishing and fitting out commercial spaces like this.

The site is an existing car showroom and the client wanted to increase the area that was given over sales. To facilitate the increased car showroom space, we proposed internal alterations to expand the showroom into the area, which is currently used for carrying out MOTs.

While internal works in most cases do not require planning permission, to facilitate the building works some 12.5 metres of existing brickwork had to be removed and replaced with glazed panels as is commonly seen in car showrooms.

To support this application we formulated a strong argument to demonstrate that the glazing would match the existing glazing found on the building and that there would be no harm to the wider character and appearance of the area.

With the advertisement application, examples of similar illumination within the Industrial Estate were collaborated into a planning portfolio to show that there would be no harmful impact upon the character and appearance of the area.

Due to the strong planning portfolio that was submitted to support the application, the Case Officer recommend the application for approval as the plans were submitted, meaning that no changes were required to the plans and the application was approved much to the delight of the client!
