BCP Council (Bournemouth): Dan Wilden is pleased to have secured planning permission for a major remodel and extensions to a house in the Dean Park Conservation Area in Bournemouth. The scheme was designed by Lymington-based Kode Architecture.

Dean Park comprises a series of Victorian villlas set in large plots around the Dean Park Cricket Ground and Horseshoe Park. But this plot was unusual as it was split from a larger property with a house built in the 1980s. There have been proposals over the years to replace the house with a block of flats with a Victorian appearance but none came to fruition. This proposal however was to enlarge the existing house and update the appearance to make it look more modern.

The proposal goes to show that for the right property, extensive change can sometimes be acceptable in a conservation area. The planning officer commented how the proposal was well designed to be in keeping with the surrounding Victorian architecture but without being a pastiche.

If you have a property you are looking to develop in a conservation area, why not speak to Pure Town Planning about whether we think there is potential?
