BCP Council (Poole): Neil McKeon has recently secured planning permission and listed building consent for alterations and conversion of a first floor restaurant space to four holiday suites along The Quay, Poole.

The Grade II listed building’s first floor will be converted to the new tourism use in this prominent corner location within the Town Centre Heritage Conservation Area. Given the listed status of the building, extensive consultation was undertaken between Pure Town Planning, the applicant, UX Architects and the Planning/Heritage Officers throughout the process.

This on-going dialogue allowed for both sides to agree the proposed internal alterations including new stud wall partitioning to reconfigure the 1st floor room layout as well as associated brickwork and fenestration changes. This consultation with Officers ensured that there would be no harm to the historic fabric of the listed building, whilst the newly proposed tourism use will add to holiday accommodation in The Quay Tourist Zone.

The resulting conversion preserves the character of the listed building and conservation area, with the change of use enabling a viable use for the 1st floor without creating any harmful impact upon the existing ground floor cafe.
