Chartered Town Planner with extensive local authority experience

Emma is a Chartered Town Planner with twelve years’ experience, working in Local Planning Authorities as well as private consultancy. Emma enjoys establishing the specific constraints and opportunities of a site in order to identify full development potential and to construct a case to put forward to the Local Planning Authority with an aim of securing planning consent to achieve the optimum use of a site.

Emma is originally from Poole and gained an MSc in Spatial Planning at Oxford Brookes University in 2011 whilst working full time as a Planning Assistant at Borough of Poole Council from 2008. After achieving her MSc Emma became a Planning Officer at Poole until 2014 when she went to work as a Planning Officer at the New Forest National Park Authority, based in Lymington. Emma subsequently became a fully Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 2015. Emma left the New Forest National Park Authority in 2018 to become a Planning Consultant, living and working in the New Forest. Emma moved back to Dorset in 2019 and began working with Pure Town Planning shortly afterwards.

Emma’s experience at Borough of Poole gave her a broad understanding and experience of planning in an urban environment, dealing with a range of types of applications and appeals from householder extensions to working on major housing developments and regeneration schemes, spending some time working on the Town Centre Regeneration Team. During Emma’s time at the National Park Authority she gained an in-depth knowledge of planning in rural areas as well as the complexities of planning within protected and designated landscapes. This gave her expertise regarding the delivery of housing in rural areas, constraints and opportunities of householder developments in such areas, agricultural occupancy conditions and development of heritage assets, as well as delivering an appropriate balance between built form and landscapes of intrinsic value and scenic beauty. Emma was also the lead planning officer at the National Park Authority for unique wetlands restoration projects carried out by Forestry England, successfully negotiating planning consent for various projects through the National Park for these sensitive and critical works required by Natural England under EU Legislation.

During Emma’s time working as a Planning Consultant she has obtained experience securing planning consents and writing appeal statements for a variety of sizes and scales of projects in various locations throughout Dorset, Hampshire and beyond.

Outside of working life Emma enjoys cycling, swimming, walking and music. Emma enjoys going to gigs and festivals and exploring new places to eat out. Emma is also a classic car enthusiast and enjoys attending car shows during the summer months.
