Weymouth and West Dorset logos planning consultant DorsetWeymouth and Portland Borough Council and West Dorset District Council: West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council are already reviewing their recently adopted Joint Local Plan – plans take so long to produce that Council’s begin working on the next pretty much as soon as the last is adopted. Anyway as part of this process the councils are carrying out a ‘call for sites’ to seek out sites that may have potential for development over the next 15 years or more. This will inform the councils’ “Strategic housing and economic land availability assessment” – many people know these as SHLAAs but more commonly now employment land is being included to make them SHELAAs.

The ‘call for sites’ is an opportunity for landowners (or developers) to submit land which could perhaps be suitable either for residential or employment development. The sites will be assessed as part of the SHELAA and if considered suitable could be the first step towards allocation in the new Local Plan. The councils have set a deadline of 19 August – further details may be found on their website here.
