Bournemouth Borough Council: Pure Town Planning have secured planning permission for two new second floor flats on Christchurch Road, Bournemouth. The existing ground floor properties are in retail use with a first floor level accommodating 3 flats.

The proposal sought to establish a new second floor addition, as well as further alterations to create two second floor flats and improved living accommodation for the existing units. Initially, the Bournemouth Borough Council planning officer raised concerns in regard to the additional second floor level in terms of the potential dominant appearance and harmful impact upon the character of this section of Christchurch Road.

Extensive consultation ensued to address the Council’s concerns, demonstrating that the overall scale of development would sit comfortably amongst its neighbouring buildings whilst also safeguarding the amenity of the proposed top floor flats themselves. Following this consultation and subtle amendments to the mansard roof form, an agreeable scheme was finally reached to the satisfaction of both the applicant and the Council.
