North Dorset District Council: Pure Town Planning are delighted to confirm yet another successful approval for a contemporary residential development near Gillingham in Dorset. The approved scheme involves the demolition of the existing bungalow and the erection of a two storey contemporary dwelling in the rural area of Higher Langham.

The proposed development would radically transform this site and create a modern 5 bedroom dwelling in place of the ageing 1950’s bungalow on site. The expansive site, situated within a rural setting, was considered to be an ideal opportunity to provide a more spacious and modern building which would take advantage of such panoramic scenic views. Due to the increased bulk and mass of the proposal, great care and attention to detail has been exercised by Tony Holt Design in order to provide an acceptable proposal. The approved scheme provides much needed additional living space to the applicant in the form of ground and first floor terraces, double height entrance hall, first floor study, snug and open plan kitchen/living room areas with substantial glazed areas, taking advantage of the panoramic south westerly views afforded from its elevated setting on Moor Lane.

Pure Town Planning worked tirelessly in liaising with both the Planning Officer at North Dorset District Council, as well as the Parish Council in order to overcome their concerns in relation to the overall visual appearance of such a contemporary house and how it would assimilate into the Moor Lane setting, being a considerable departure from the existing modest bungalow. Subsequently, following rigorous negotiation with the respective officers and Parish Council, it was finally agreed that all issues and concerns had been satisfactorily dealt with and the LPA could fully support the proposal, which will create a striking contemporary dwelling for the applicant, without negatively impacting the character or appearance of the countryside setting.
