Ferndown industrial estate planning consultants DorsetEast Dorset District Council: Pure Town Planning has just secured planning permission for a change of use of part an industrial premises to a shop and café in Ferndown Industrial Estate.

The applicant approached Pure Town Planning after it became apparent that the size of the industrial unit far exceed their requirements and they were keen to explore alternative uses with a view of bringing the whole of the building back into use, whilst retaining the existing industrial business. After visiting the site it became clear that the provision of shops and cafes in surrounding area to serve the large workforce of Ferndown Industrial Estate was very low, often meaning workers had to drive to neighbouring areas to grab some lunch or a newspaper. We were instructed to prepare, submit and manage a change of use planning application to convert the underused area from B2 to A1/A3 use. As part of the submission we prepared a supporting design, access and planning statement which made a clear argument in favour of the proposal concluding that the use was in line with local and national planning policy objectives and would provide needed amenities for the local workforce, whilst retaining the industrial use of the site.

The East Dorset District Council planning officer agreed with our supporting statement and planning permission was subsequently granted under delegated powers.

The client was delighted with the decision and is currently busy preparing the site for its summer opening.
