South Downs National Park Authority: Pure Town Planning are pleased to announce that we have secured planning permission for the erection of a garage within the South Downs National Park (retrospective). The site is located on Winchester Road and outside of the settlement boundary of Petersfield, therefore new development is somewhat restricted, especially given that the site is within a national park- a high quality rural landscape.

The client constructed the garage believing that it would comply with planning policy. However, on submitting a retrospective application back in January 2017, the garage was refused by the South Downs National Park Authority due to its scale, height, design, massing and position forward of the dwelling which would result in the development being out of character in this sensitive area.

Following these decisions Pure Town Planning entered into negotiations with the Planning Officers in order to fully address the objections of the National Park Authority, to retain as much of the constructed garage as possible whilst preserving the character and appearance of the national park.

After a lengthy consultation process with the respective Authority to ensure the garage suitably reflected the character of the national park, an agreeable scheme was finally reached to the satisfaction of all parties and the subsequent application was approved.

As this case demonstrates, here at PTP we go to great lengths to secure planning permission for our clients. If you have had planning permission refused for a retrospective application, fear not! There is a chance there could be a way to retain the development.
