West Hants Bournemouth tennis dome planning approvalBournemouth Borough Council: Pure Town Planning have secured planning permission for an extension to the period in which an air dome (or ‘bubble’) can be used each year at one of Bournemouth’s leading racquets and leisure clubs, The West Hants Club.

Following a very wet September last year the club realised that their existing consent for the air dome which was only from 1st October to 31st March each year was not sufficient for their needs and they approached us to help them out. The tennis club runs an Academy tennis program with two local schools – Talbot Heath and Bournemouth Collegiate schools. This program is specifically designed to spot and develop talented youngsters in the local area. The school year begins at the start of September each year, however if like last year (2013) the weather is particularly wet and unforgiving these classes and coaching sessions are limited to the 4 indoor courts which limits the number of classes which can be run.

Pure Town Planning put forward a solution to this problem and suggested simply varying the condition on the original planning permission by bringing forward the allowable time that the air dome can be used by one month earlier (i.e. from 1st September to 31st March each year). Bournemouth Borough Council deemed that there would be no detrimental impact to the amenities of neighbouring residents as a result of the extension and granted planning permission accordingly.

Securing consent for the club to be free to put up the air dome to coincide with the start of the school year provides a further two dry courts to be able to be used by the local schools as well as other members and guests during rainy weather in future Septembers. It is undeniable that The West Hants Club is a fantastic facility for the town and one which Pure Town Planning are proud to have helped.
